FactoryTalk Optix Software Upgrade Contributes to Plant Safety

A worker operates a FactoryTalk Optix panel

A customer that manufactures aluminum cans for food and beverage processors approached us with a problem. Their emergency staff needed to receive email notifications when alarms were triggered by their oxidizer system.

The oxidizer system plays a major safety role in their production line. Gasses are produced during the processing of aluminum. The oxidizer makes sure they are burnt off safely. If the system is not working properly, it could cause an environmental issue and result in fines from the Environmental Protection Agency.

The customer’s legacy setup used a PanelView Plus 7 HMI, which did not support email communication. To address this, we upgraded their system to the new OptixPanel line from Rockwell Automation, which utilizes FactoryTalk Optix. This upgrade allowed email notifications for alarms and functionality that let operators enable and disable the alarm functionality. During this process, we also improved the HMI graphics and user interface, enhancing the overall user experience.
